A metronome is a device that produces a steady pulse to help musicians play in time. The pulse is measured in BPM (beats-per-minute). A tempo marking of 60 BPM equals one beat per second, while 120 BPM equals two beats per second. A metronome is commonly used as a practice tool to help maintain a steady tempo while learning difficult passages. The metronome has two different working modes: strict and loose. The 'strict' mode shows only the 'real' metronome tempos; that is, the tempo values you can find on a real, physical metronome, ranging from 40 bpm (beats per minute) to 208 bpm. The loose mode, instead, allows you to define any tempo value from 1 bpm to 400 bpm.

Finally you are here. That's nice. We believe that you know what metronome software is. But what if you don't.

After Wikipedia description we have:

A metronome is any device that produces a regulated: audible, visual or touch (any combination of the three) pulse, usually used to establish a steady tempo, measured in beats-per-minute (BPM) for the performance of musical compositions. It is an invaluable practice tool for musicians that goes back hundreds of years.

Audio, guitar metronome

Betronome

As a standard audio metronome it's suitable for use in guitar or piano practice or any other instrument. It can be used in different styles of music and dance. If you play or dance flamenco you look for soleá and siguiriyas rhythms. In classical music you will surely need some standard metrum metronome like 3/4 or 4/4 with typical tick and bell sounds. And if you exercise rock or pop songs you may need some percussion loop. So if you are looking for advanced rhythm go for advanced metronom! I have also seen metronome as an audio software to keep time or rhythm while running, Rubic's Cube practice, speed reading or hypnosis.
